004: Census Returns for Jesse Darwin

Jesse Darwin's 2.7 date of birth is estimated on the basis of the 1800 Federal Census for Virginia, in which he is ennumerated as "over 45 years of age". The year of his death is presumed from the fact he appears on the 1805 Personal Property Tax List, but in 1806 his place is taken by his wife's name. We have not yet secured copies of these documents, and would be obliged to anyone who could supply!

003: Revolutionary War Service of John Ward3.1

John Ward (1790-1838) is believed to have been a soldier in the Revolution, and present at Yorktown -- so much is known from his Pension application. Anyone with a copy of his Pension application, please e-mail us!

002: Who was Judy (Henderson) Hall's Mother?

(Feb 2007) There is an enduring conundrum concerning the 1794 Will of Thomas Henderson. Henderson, previously of Louisa County, Virginia, but a migrant to Union County, South Carolina (where he wrote his will) includes a bequest to

my Daughter Judy Hall the ballance of her grandfather Durvins Estate

which certainly makes Henderson sound like a son-in-law of William Darwin (1707-1786) of Louisa County, VA. William's daughter Jane (b. 1737) is a candidate for the role of Thomas Henderson's wife -- but only on the grounds that absolutely nothing else is known about her, and that is hardly a convincing argument.
