1846: Darwin - Arrowood Mining Rights Agreement

Agreement by John Bland Darwin 3.33 for lease of mineral rights with Riley Arrowood
John B. Darwin: Riley Arrowood
State of South Carolina - York District
Articles of Agreement made & Entered into John B. Darwin & Riley Arrowood both of the State & District aforesaid. I the said John B. Darwin doth agree to give Riley Arrowood the sixth share of all gold or minerals that he may find within said Darwins land lying in Union District South Carolina adjoining lands of Ja. Love & John Kannadys (illegible) contain Two Hundred & Eighty Five acres more or less. And the said Arrowood is to be at the one sixth expences for obtaining (illegible). As (illegible) neither party is to let any other persons (illegible), or the mining of any place without both be agreed to it and if the other party does want to sell that the other shall not be in the way and all timbers and (illegible) that is necessary to carry on the mining business is allowed and the said Arrowood & his Heirs & assigns is to have the use of the above land for the use above stated for ninety nine years this given under our hands and seals this 12 day of May A.D. 1846.

Personally appeared before me Nancy Darwin and Mary Darwin and being duly sworn according to Law sayeth that they was subscribing witnesses to the written conveyance of Lease from John B. Darwin to Riley Arrowood.
